Employer of Record
An employer of record is an organization that serves as the employer for tax purposes while the employee performs work at a different company. The employer of record takes on the responsibility of traditional employment tasks and liabilities.
Developmental disability:
Any mental or physical disability that has an onset before age 22 and may continue indefinitely.
Developmental disabilities are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions begin during the developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person's lifetime.
Behavioral competency
Behavioral competency refers to any behavior attributes and personality traits a person might have, such as knowledge and skill set, which can help determine how successful he/she will be at the job they are applying for. It can help define employee's behavioral strengths for the future success in the workplace.
Broadbanding
Broadbanding is the term applied to having extremely wide salary bands, much more encompassing than with traditional salary structures. Whereas a typical salary band has a 40 percent difference in pay between its minimum and maximum, broadbanding would typically have a 100 percent difference.
Cash profit-sharing plans:
A cash profit-sharing plan involves paying a portion of profits directly to your employees that is taxed as regular income. It is not tax-sheltered and employees do not have to use the extra money as an investment or retirement vehicle.
Cultural noise:
Type of interviewer bias; failure to recognize responses of a candidate that are socially acceptable rather than factual.
In other words, Cultural Noise refers to the hindrances to successful communication between people of different cultures.
Leave sharing:
A leave program allowing employees to donate unused sick leave to a coworker who has exhausted all available sick leave and is out due to a long-term illness or injury.
Performance goal:
A target level of performance expressed as a tangible, measurable objective against which actual performance can be compared, including a goal expressed as a quantitative standard, value, or rate.
Self-service HR
Software which gives employees the ability to self-manage and update parts of their HR record held by the business. This can include bank account or superannuation information, personal details or emergency contacts, or manage benefits or entitlements. This can reduce administration costs and allow the business to invest more resources into the profit-making sectors of the company. Also known as employee self-service.
Contract for service
A contract for services is a formal, legally binding agreement before a business and a self-employment individual. It differs between an employment contract – known as a contract of service – which is between an employer and an individual who then becomes employed by the company.
Immediate labor area:
The geographic area from which employees reasonably may commute to the employer's establishment. It may include one or more contiguous cities, counties, Metropolitan Statistical Areas, or parts thereof.
